Following several weeks of preparation with Georgina and James, we arrived in Lake Como, Italy. The most beautiful location, very privileged to be here again, this time to photograph James & Georgina’s special day. On arrival we paid a visit to the couples stunning accommodation for the week, Villa Lucia which overlooked the lake & the town of Bellagio. After meeting Georgina’s parent’s Yvonne & Brian to run though the final plans for their day and after a sneaky guided tour and lots of laughter, we left all smiles & ready for the day ahead.
After a cheeky bite to eat at our favorite restaurant where we were treated to what can only be described as the most beautiful but frightening thunder storms with a light show to rival New Year’s Eve in London.
Waking up excited, we set off for the astounding Grand Hotel Tremezzo to meet the James and his bestmen (John & Aaron), where the cheeky devils were in fine sprits, with the highlight being, to watch 3 grown men trying to put on ladies pop socks whilst Aaron (in his best Italian accent) was trying to order beers from room service.
Great prep shots here then off to Villa Lucia to the bride’s party, Cheryl, Sam & Jo (bridesmaids) and the cutest flower girl (Mila) & Pageboy (Noah), and of course the ever energetic mother of the bride, Yvonne . I felt so so lucky to be working with a bride that was so accommodating, an allowed us the luxury of plenty of time to shoot all the hair & makeup through to stunning shots in & around this exquisite Villa. It’s so important to have those pockets of time, to capture for example the very romantic present sent from James, a magnificent pair of earrings leaving everyone with a lump in there throat. Armed with her amazing Altier Pronovias Gown & Lou Boutins & the only umbrella that had been left in the Villa we were on our way to the boat. At this point the guests still had no clue about the amazing venue they were about to spend their day at (great powers of secrecy from the couple).
Whilst all this was going on Paul was racing to Villa del Balbianello to meet James & the boys off their epic Italian speed boat, driven by the ever charismatic Egor. The boys also did not arm themselves with brollies, they found themselves having to hide in the bushes to avoid the rain, whilst waiting for the moment the guests’ surprise was revealed.
With the groom & guests all relaxing at Villa del Balbianello I was flying across the lake with George & the bridal party, the rain finally subsided & we were able to take the roof off to get some vitamin D. The guests waited patiently for the girls to make their way to the top via the drinks table.
The ceremony was breathtaking in such beautiful surroundings, I’ll never get bored of that backdrop. It was time then to hop on the boat & have some time with the newly married couple. Again so important to have a couple who understand how to get the best shots & I think we accomplished this. Even if Igor’s driving nearly did have myself and Leanne (videographer) in the water!
Back just in time for dinner, hilarious speeches from the Geordies. First dance & shirt throwing finished the day off spectacularly. The weather is always a factor for couples on their wedding day, but in the 18 years I’ve been shooting weddings I’ve never known the weather man to be so wrong. The best day ever!
Special thanks to Alexis (Wedding Planning) & Petra for covering the wedding & looking after us whilst in Como.
